In At the Threshold, a woman steps from the dark interior of a house towards the light. The doorway, the threshold and the patches of light on the paving mark the boundary between two spaces: the enclosed intimacy of the home and the world outside. Inside and outside. Black linocut ink and yellow floral motifs. The contrast between light and shadow.

I spent my childhood summers in my grandmother’s village, where I experienced a deep, instinctive connection with nature from an early age. For me, village life was intertwined with a sense of freedom: swimming in the stream, wandering through the fields and living in tune with the rhythms of the landscape.

In everyday village life, the interior of the house was closely connected to the garden, the courtyard and the fields. Work and daily activities involved a constant movement between indoors and outdoors. The threshold is therefore more than an architectural detail: it both separates and connects two complementary living spaces.

The yellow-green floral pattern of the paper shows through the bold, dense shapes of the black linocut print. The botanical ornament runs through the woman’s silhouette, the doorway and the paving, connecting the interior of the house with nature. The contrast between dark and light surfaces briefly holds the figure in the moment of crossing.

In the My Collective Heritage series, I bring together personal memories, the shared motifs of rural life and the visual language of women’s needlework. The floral patterned paper evokes household textiles, wallpaper and decorated objects, while becoming a distinct visual layer within the artwork.

This work belongs to a family of prints made from the same lino block. However, the individually selected patterned paper means that no two impressions are exactly alike. Each print is a unique artwork in its own right.

Signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Presented framed.
