The Parallel Cycles series draws attention to the deep yet increasingly fragile connection between humans and nature. Through intertwining motifs of the female body and natural forms, I explore how nature’s processes are reflected within us: growth, transformation, transience and rebirth.
In Teenage Spring, two teenage girls whisper to one another. Beneath them lie the earth and their roots; above them, a pink, pearlescent mist conceals the future. For now, the present is frothy and pink, almost verging on kitsch. Adolescence emerges as a time of transition within the organic background and its gradual shifts in colour. The figures are not sharply separated from their surroundings: their contours dissolve among organic structures and overlapping layers of paint.
Layers built up with a specialised priming medium give the surface a tactile quality. These textures are more than formal elements: they evoke earth, plant tissues and the shapes of flowers.
Viewed up close, the painting reveals subtle details and layers of material; from a distance, it resolves into a unified, almost landscape-like composition.
The works in the Parallel Cycles series explore whether we can once again perceive nature as part of our own existence — as a living system to which we are connected through our bodies, memories and inner rhythms, rather than simply as our external surroundings.
