In Plum Tree Row V., the black linocut print creates a striking contrast with the colourful embroidery motifs. The background colours evoke blossom, summer light and fertility, bringing these associations to the shaded row of trees along a village street. Landscape and pattern merge: the botanical ornament runs through the road, the fences and the tree canopies, as though memory were colouring the scene anew. The dark trunks of the plum trees, blossoming in spring, still recall winter, contrasting with the joyful promise of spring in the floral background.
Plum trees on the street are typical in Hungarian villages. This series of graphics is based on my childhood experience: the summer holidays spent by my Grandma in a small village.
